1. How do you address safety concerns?
All of our employees, even our sales staff,
are confined-space trained and First Aid trained. We take great
care in meeting with engineers and safety personnel to review specific
site safety procedures. Every employee has the authority to stop
the job for any reasons if a situation is unsafe or even appears
unsafe. We have even turned down jobs and walked away from orders
if we feel the site is not sufficiently safe.
2. Do you use your own crews or subcontract?
We have our own crews and subcontract only
rarely. When and if we do subcontract a portion of our work or an
entire job, we notify the customer. In our tank lining work, the
only portion we would ever sub contract is tank cleaning. We do
all of our confined space work in house or under our immediate supervision.
In the rare case where we do subcontract a project, we work with
only a small, select, high-quality contractors with whom we have
had a long-term relationship.
3. How do I know what kind of guarantee I'm going to get?
When we issue a quotation, we are very
specific in the length and type of guarantee we provide. On certain
projects, water, swimming pools, most petroleum products and distillates,
it is a standard 10-year guarantee.
4. What type of coatings do you use? We
use only the highest quality coating manufacturers in the country.
The bulk of products we install are high-end, 100% solids epoxies.
We also install multiple coat epoxies. Other products include vinyl
ester systems, polyester systems, acrylic topcoats, urethanes and
modified aliphatic urethanes. In most cases, we recommend the coating,
however, we can also apply any material that has been specified.
5. How much does it cost to line a tank?
Quotes are provided on a case by case because
each job requirement is so unique. The price depends on the type
of surface preparation required, the condition of the surface of
the area to be coated, access to the site, type of coating used,
etc.
6. Can you line a tank from the outside?
Yes, but it should be a last resort. Coating
a tank or spot repairing leaks from the outside of the tank may
stop the tank from leaking but won't stop the corrosion that's occurring
inside the tank. It's always preferable to enter a tank and stop
the corrosion before it starts.
7. I've been told it's an expensive process - is it?
No. A high-quality tank lining done by
a quality contractor is frequently the least expensive option. Many
people are initially shocked by the cost a top-notch tank lining
job. But when the cost of the job is amortized over the no-maintenance
life expectancy of the coating, it's cost plummets. Especially if
you take into account our ability to stop leaks in a leaking tank
and still provide our guarantees
8. How long does it take to line a tank?
Each job is different. We provide a time
estimate in of our quotations. We do have the ability to work around
the clock and/or on weekends when required.
9. How long will it take for you to get to my job?
We are a small company and our availability
depends on our schedule. Most times, a small job (less than four
days) can be scheduled within two weeks. Larger jobs need longer
to schedule. Once we are on a job, unless something extraordinary
occurs, we stay on the job until it is completed.
10. Why have I had bad experiences with tank linings in the past?
Tank lining is different than a lot of
other types of service businesses. There are different degrees of
abrasive blasting. High-end coatings are difficult to apply. Sticking
to the low bidder in tank lining is risky, unless you as the customer
go into the tank, hire a third-party inspector, or work with a top-notch
applicator, you don't know what type of application you will end
up with.
11. How large of a geographic area do you cover?
The bulk of our work is carried out within
100 miles of Chicago. We have gone as far as Iowa, Indiana and into
Central Wisconsin.
12. Are you union?
No. We do, however, work closely with other
two union shops and are able to work on union projects through subcontractors
with our supervision and our guarantee.
13. Is it better to buy a new tank or line an old one?
In most cases, but not all, it is better
to line an existing tank rather than buy a new one. The guarantees
we provide are almost always longer than the guarantee you would
receive in buying a new tank.
14. How long does the coating have to dry before I can fill the
tank?
The rate of cure depends on a great many
things, such as the type of product used, ambient temperatures and
humidity. Many of the products we use cure in less than a day at
70F. Most products are completely cured within seven days at 70F.
There are some products that have a cure time of just a few minutes.
